ATLANTIC SEA Completes Comprehensive Modernization Program
October 2025 -Atlantic Container Line has completed a comprehensive modernization program on one of its G4-class vessels, the Atlantic Sea, delivering significant improvements in efficiency, sustainability and overall appearance.
[Created: 1 December 2025]
As part of the project, the vessel’s entire underwater hull was blasted and recoated with a next-generation, silicone antifouling system. The new surface reduces resistance and enhances fuel efficiency, delivering an average speed increase of about one knot.
A high-voltage shore power installation was also added, allowing the ship to connect to local electricity while in port. With the main generators no longer required during port stays, the system eliminates local emissions and considerably reduces noise and fuel consumption.
Extensive painting and refurbishment work took place across both interior and exterior areas, including a full repainting of the superstructure, decks, and accommodation areas. These upgrades form part of the ongoing Atlantic Container Line/Grimaldi Group beautification program which focuses on preserving the G4 fleet’s appearance.
In addition to the enhancements, standard class renewal inspections and routine machinery and safety overhauls were performed to ensure regulatory compliance and operational reliability for the Atlantic Sea’s next service cycle.
Atlantic Container Line and the Grimaldi Group are committed to sustainability, performance improvements, and the long-term upkeep of the G4-class fleet. This completed modernization underscores this strong commitment.
