A 12-Ton Chinook Helicopter Takes Flight Out Of The Port of Antwerp To Its Final Destination
Who would think that a 12-ton Chinook helicopter could literally be shipped across the Atlantic from its manufacturer in the United States to Europe with no dismantling? Well, ACL made it easy.
The helicopter arrived at the Port of Baltimore. The helicopter was completely intact with engines, navigational, communications, safety and operational equipment used to operate this aircraft. The blades were the only part that was removed! It was lashed safely onto a mafi and rolled into ACL’s covered garage deck for the voyage.
ACL was chosen because of its unique ability to transport the $7 million helicopter without disassembly, safe and secure from the elements for its transatlantic voyage. Upon arrival in Antwerp’s Euroterminal (AET), the helicopter was rolled off ACL’s 420 metric ton stern ramp to an open space in the container yard. Its blades were attached and off it went into the wild blue yonder.
