ACL Makes Light of A 201-Ton Industrial Transformer When Electric, Light and Power are Essential to New York State

How do you move an industrial transformer with enough power to light up a city block? When ACL takes charge, it’s easy!

A 201-ton transformer made its voyage from Port of Antwerp onboard one of ACL’s combination RORO/Containerships, the Atlantic Sea, to the Port of New York and New Jersey. The weight of the transformer was no problem for ACL because it was driven directly on board the vessel via ACL’s 420 metric ton capacity stern ramp. The transformer was then securely lashed down in the RORO garage deck for the transatlantic voyage.

Since this shipment was time-sensitive, upon its arrival at the Port of New York and New Jersey, the transformer was quickly discharged. It was transported to a New York State sub-station, in order to be installed and operational for the winter season.

With ACL’s unique handling of roll-on/roll-off, breakbulk and oversize cargo, power generation equipment can easily be transported. There is no dismantling and reassembly, which avoids damage to the equipment. The cargo is not hoisted or lifted but driven directly onto the vessel in one piece. Lastly, the cargo is safely and securely stowed in our watertight, RORO garage decks. This is an advantage only ACL can provide.
